  • Dear Friends and Family and Fellow Xangans,

Greetings from Los Angeles.  I am serving on the border of the mission in the Glendale 2nd and 5th Wards.  I live in LA though.  The apartment is . . . well the first neighbor I met had an electric ankle bracelet on indicating that he's on house arrest.  We live right next to an adult entertainment store.  Needless to say it's a nice part of town.

The people here seem really nice though.  My trainer is Elder Wood from Arizona.  He's a great guy who's been here for over a year.  Lately he and his old companion have been very successful.  This historically is a very slow area.  The ward is much smaller than the BG1 ward back home.  But recently they did a 40 day fast for the missionary work during which at least 1 person was fasting.  Now I just participated in 2 confirmations on Sunday.  We have 3 more people committed for baptism, with a teaching pool that it very promising with 4 people.  This is a miracle, and an exciting one at that.

We spend several hours a week with Habitat for Humanity.  (building houses) Let's just say I am not used to manual labor of this magnitude.  We were digging trenches for pipes and the like.  It is a lot harder than it sounds with just shovels in the rocky, dry earth of LA..  It was rewarding though, cause I'm sure I'll come home really buff.

I will have to watch what I eat cause I'm not on a bike.  I get to drive.  Yep.  It is weird to be driving as a greenie.  I really like the car now especially that I'm so sore from digging.

Some of the people we come across are very interesting.  We're teaching someone who we hope will be baptized, but her husband is in another room during our lessons swearing, drinking beer, and smoking his prescribed marijuana.  It can be somewhat obnoxious.  But we deal with it.  One of our referrals (someone who asks us to come and visit them) showed us 400 pictures of ghosts around her house.  Apparently we're now the ghost busters.  And of course I have lots more stories, but no time, so sorry.  Goodbye for now,

    Elder Embree

  • (Colossians 3:17) "Whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him."

Remember His promise, because His grace is enough...He uses the weak to lead the strong.  For some teensschool is a place to meet friends.  For some it's a chance to be on a sports team.  For some it's a path to college and a great job.  For some it's a place to nap before going to work to earn money to support their car.  As for you all...?

As for me, I plan to become a Youth Pastor that can play the guitar, sing/worship the Lord, and I pray others will be led my example.  If you want to listen to worship music, come to my xanga!  I have many songs for you to listen to, and if you want, I could tell you how to get a player on your site too!  Just comment back on your decision.

Jesus chose you to be his friend.  "Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God."  (Romans 15:7)

See the awesome power of God through human beings, from the word of God!  See this website!  http://rulestheweb.com/coolwebsites

This is long, sorry, but I must share this with everyone who is willing to listen!

    Please share this with everyone!
