  • “Shhhh! I’m epiphanating”

So for the longest time I’ve tried to figure out what the heck Third Eye Blind meant when they sing, “Icarus is not a t-shirt or a swan song/no, he is born again” (Blinded). I know the whole Greek mythology story. The song uses a metaphor about being blinded by the sun, representing his ex-girlfriend. I guess the greek mythology fits in because he is like Icarus, and his wings are melted by this ex-girlfriend whom he can’t get to, thus “And I’ve just fallen back to earth/Still you know I’ll try again”

Well, I just learned that Led Zeppelin made a t-shirt with Icarus on it and called it the swan song t-shirt. Third Eye Blind is saying that Icarus is more than just a figure on a t-shirt, he is a real life issue that this guy is dealing with. I get it now!

    I hope that made sense.

Edit: Youth conference is this week. I’m very bummed out that most of my friends aren’t going. Last year I wrote like 50 pages about it between my super long post and my even longer private entry . . . I don’t think I’ll be able to do that this year. *tear*

Oh, almost forgot. Had to say goodbye to Andrew and Brian last Sunday . . . they report to the MTC soon for Chile. How cool. They were very happy and had good things to say for and about BYU.

    Edit again:

I just read something that almost made me want to be a Demacrat. That is saying something because I am die-hard Republican and Conservative. It’s just that there are some Conservative Republicans who are out there saying some very ignorant things that show a lack of even a desire to understand. I wish that some people could learn the art of tolerance (wow, did I really say that?). I don’t mean acceptance. Heavens no, there are some things that we can not, should not, accept or look upon with the least bit of allowance. But could we respect and/or try to understand one another. For example, Allah is arab for God. Do we critacize Spaniards for praying to el Dios? No! because Dios is the same as God. Why do we say that Arabs worship a different God because they say Allah instead of God. Christian arabs pray to Allah! Woah! Oh no, they must die.

Ok, I will stop ranting. And still I wonder, did that make any sense?

  • remember when the supreme court completely dodged a real ruling on “Elk Grove School District v. Newdow”? oh yah, on a completely different tangent…here’s a link to a really really good talk by Elder Russell M. Nelson http://lds.org/newsroom/voice/display/0,18255,5004-1-121,00.html

    sleepy time!

  • I have a few questions–How do you detemine which sins are so serious they are unforgivable? Aren’t all sins equal in the sight of the Lord? Why would Christ suffer as He did, and sacrifice Himself–His blood–for our atonement, but only for a select group of sins? How is it possible to determine the heart condition of another man?

The quote you took from scripture was taken out of context. Jesus refered to young believers as “little ones”. He was saying that if any christian who was more mature in His faith than the new believer, did something that scripture does not necessarily discourage (or maybe it did), and caused the new one to stumble in his own walk with Christ, than God’s punishment will be so that it would be more desirable to be drowned with a millstone. ie; A couple has a glass of champange on their wedding anniversary. The Bible says not to become drunk with wine. But, if the young believer found out and thought it was okay to drink and violated his conscience or got drunk, then the more mature christian has caused the other to stumble.

Anyways, I agree with the steps of repentence you mentioned. You were pretty right on. I might just switch steps 2 and 3, only because I would confess of my sin after I had committed it, not after I had already made an effort to turn away from it. It’s only possible when you put on something new in place of that sin. And, can only be done with the help of the Lord.

  • How do you detemine which sins are so serious they are unforgivable?
No sin is unforgivable. It is just not possible to make a restitution for certain sins in this life. That is why we believe that forgiveness could not come in this life, but in the afterlife it is possible through the atoning blood of Christ.

Aren’t all sins equal in the sight of the Lord?
If I lie to my parents and then feel bad, do you think it will be easier to repent of that than if I were to kill my parents and then feel bad?

Why would Christ suffer as He did, and sacrifice Himself–His blood–for our atonement, but only for a select group of sins?
The Atoning blood of Christ will earase ALL sin that you repent of. The issue is when you don’t repent, or if you can’t repent because you can’t make a restitution for the wrongdoing.

How is it possible to determine the heart condition of another man?
Men alone cannot Judge (Read 1 Samuel 16:7
Jesus Christ has the authority to judge (Read John5:27 Please understand that we believe in living prophets and apostles who speak the words of Christ. In other words, we believe that if the Prophet speaks with the Holy Ghost it is a revelation from Jesus Christ, so a prophet would be able to deliver a judgment pertaining to this life because he is acting as a middle man between us and Jesus Christ. Did that make any sense?

  • i totally lost sight of what i was gonna say. i really dont like the fact that they take the word god, out of everything. This is a country founded on/for religous freedom. and not one religon has any bit of freedom. I would rather risk a clash of religon any day over the outcast of it. when they took the word god out of “i pledge allegience to the flag….” i was out raged, and i didnt even belong to a church then. in fact, i even rebuked, most things to do with religon then. and i was still upset by it. but now even more so. i dont care if people pray to allah, jehova, or whoever else. as long as they do not do so in vein. thats where the freedom part of our country should stand in place, but instead thats when the government of this confused country stands. I just hope that when people of our generation become civic leaders, we can keep in mind our religons, and our love of freedom. only to combine the two, and restore our america. besides, we are not the only religon who thinks that the decleration was inspired…

  • Icarus was the name of that winged guy?! i have the vinyl of “Physical Graffiti” and it had that and i just assumed Page or Plant were kinda into crazy looking adult cheribums and yah…Icarus, now i finally know!
